Welcome to Ewha! I’m sure you will be surprised at how confusing everything is because you don’t know where anything is or what is available. There are many buildings in Ewha: ECC, 학문관, 학관, 중앙도서관, dormitory and so on, so it usually takes a long time for freshmen to get accustomed to this labyrinth of buildings at Ewha. Therefore, you will need this article’s help because we show you exactly what is available, where everything is, and how to use the facilities.
Facilities for Rest
In Ewha, we have lots of facilities for rest. But many freshmen would not know about those facilities; for example, kitchenettes, sleeping rooms, and cinemas.
Kitchenettes
You can find the kitchenettes next to the restrooms in the ECC buildings. These useful rooms are very small, but they have many appliances and furniture to give you refreshment and rest. For example, each has a refrigerator, a microwave, sofas, and a water purifier.
Sleeping Room
At first there was only one sleeping room inside the reading room in the ECC building, but now there is one more sleeping room in the 학문관. The ECC building’s sleeping room has normal beds like those we have in our houses, and the 학문관 has folding cots. Students can use the sleeping room from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m.. Sleeping rooms are very useful, especially in exam periods.
Cinema
There are two cinemas at Ewha. You may think they would be small, but they are not. Each of them have 140 seats. The movies they usually screen are artistic, so students can learn things from them while recovering from fatigue at the same time. Also, all Ewha students can get cheap tickets at only 1,000 won. (Students can get an additional discount also.) These theaters are open from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. and open all year around. (picture)
Facilities for Convenience
Student Support Room
At Ewha, you have to print out your class assignments before the class. Therefore, during every break between classes, the copying spots are jammed with people and the copy fees are expensive. However, in the Student Support Room, if you bring copying paper, you can copy and print for free, regardless of how many pages you need. Sometimes, the place is a little crowded, but it is convenient and, above all, FREE! So, use this facility often!
Ewha coop
The Ewha Coop operates cafeterias, stationary stores, gift shops, bakeries, vending machines and printing rooms. This facility is located in most large buildings in the Ewha like the ECC, library and college buildings. If you become a member of an association, you can get five percent discounts on all of your purchases and can receive a chance to get an Ewha Coop scholarship.
Student Service Center
If you enter Ewha, you need some documents or information of school life. This center does all of this.
Here, you can be issued with certificates of achievement or of studying abroad, student IDs, and information about academic affairs and school life. Also if you lose something, you can find it in the center’s lost-and-found service, and if you have some packages, you can send them by DHL parcel service. In addition, the center has free umbrella borrowing and phone charging services.
Computer Room
This is located in the ECC building in B204. The Information and Communications Institution takes charge of it. The computer room is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. from Monday to Friday. Students can print documents there and even use a copy machine and scanner. Note that you can’t bring any beverages and food into this facility. To enter this you should place your student card on the sensor or write your student number.
Facilities for Academic Development
English Lounge
The English Lounge is in the ECC building B235. The Lounge is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Monday to Friday. Each professor is scheduled to be in the Lounge at a particular hour each week. The Lounge's phone number is 02-3277-6777. All Ewha students are welcome and no appointment is necessary.
Because the English Lounge is an English Only Zone, everyone has to use English only. This means that if students wish to speak Korean, they have to leave the room to do so. This goes for anyone speaking on their cell phones too. The primary purpose of the Lounge is to provide visitors with an opportunity to develop their conversation skills.
Career Development Center
Do you want to get a job more easily or receive any information about internships?
Then go to the Career Development Center.
Then go to the Career Development Center.
This center was established in 2003 to support Ewha students successfully go into the world. This operates various services to support employment, provide professional counseling and develop educational research. Recently, this center has operated special programs which help students access international internships, prepare for state examinations, enter public enterprises and become commissioned officers.
The program has the deadlines for applications, so you should be well-informed of that.
As you can see, there are many facilities in Ewha. Actually there are many more facilities in Ewha, but we focused on the most important ones. If you want other information, you need to visit Ewha’s homepage; http://www.ewha.ac.kr. Don’t wander off anymore in Ewha!
